Occupation: Articling Student
Predominant Practice or Research Area: As a student at a full service firm, I practice in numerous areas. Previously, I have conducted separate research in the areas of (1) decolonizing international law; (2) Indigenous trade regimes and the international green energy transition.
What have been the most interesting developments in international law?
The increasing integration of Indigenous world views within international regimes and particularly in environmental matters. Increasingly, Indigenous groups are assuming equity positions in carbon-free energy projects domestically. This has allowed Indigenous world views to permeate the carbon-free energy regime and gain a seat at the table. There is a unique opportunity to merge market related trends with the goals of the international climate law regime in a way that simultaneously advances the tenants of Indigenous self-governance. This too coincides with the advancement of natural elements such as rivers gaining legal personhood status with Indigenous groups being made their legal stewards.
